Leonora District High School is located in the mining community of Leonora, 840 km north east of Perth and 240 km north of the largest outback town, Kalgoorlie. Leonora District High School is situated within the Education District of the Goldfields. The present population of the town is approximately 1 500. Employment is mainly in mining, local business and to a lesser degree in public authorities and in the pastoral industry. Leonora is on the edge of the Central Desert region; featuring hot summers, cool winters and a very low rainfall average of about 233 mm per year.
The school currently caters for students from K to 12 and has a modified program for year 11 and 12 students, with a combination of school delivered and SIDE options available. Other educational facilities in Leonora include a playgroup, a day care centre, a newly constructed medical and health centre, a hospital with full time doctor, an airport serviced by Skippers Aviation, swimming pool and recreation centre with gymnasium and a telecentre.
