Primary (K-6)

The primary staff at Leonora District High School are dedicated to providing our students with a high quality numeracy program which enables them to progress their mathematical skills and knowledge. All teachers take part in regular professional learning to build upon their knowledge to further assist students.

Our teachers are supported with their professional learning utilising the Department of Education’s curriculum support materials for Maths curriculum – understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning. Mental and basic facts are a key focus for our students in Years 1 to 6. Number facts and calculation strategies are explicitly taught in all classrooms.

We use Brightpath assessment data to enable us to deliver individualised learning to all students. Students cultivate a growth mindset and we work with students to support their achievement. Our mission is to inspire a love of mathematics, to grow critical and creative thinking and personal and social capabilities through regular rich tasks and group work.
